Integrating visual communication into your workflow
Enterprises are incorporating more and more visual element in their Communication today. Emojis, gifs, pictures have become an integral part of communication. All platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook have incorporated filters which add visual elements in video chats. Visual communication is quicker, creates more significant impact and is also entertaining.
Communication between enterprises today is not the dull drab of the past but are incorporating more and more visual elements and providing the participants for communicating visually. Trello boards to Basecamp and Usersnap, visual communication has come here to stay. But what are the benefits of visual communications?
Visual Communication is quicker
What is communication? When a person interacts with another person, we are translating the other person’s thoughts into our thoughts and then into actions or words. Now compare an ordinary e-mail with visual communication. For understanding an e-mail one has to read the e-mail, translate the ideas into action, try to understand what the other person is saying, and respond with another email asking for confirmation what you inferred is precisely what the sender meant. So confusing. Visual communication is instant, very practical and can be processed by the participants much faster. The human brain process visuals 60,000 times faster than text.
Verbal communication often needs to be deduced by the receiver while in visual communication, the meaning is presented. Understanding complex issues are much quicker when it is visually communicated.
It makes collaboration a breeze
Web developers today prefer visual communication rather than using email for exchanging design feedback with their colleagues. Information often gets lost or misinterpreted in an email whereas a screenshot will better explain the whole scenario.
It is more memorable
Visuals are better put into memory because it goes into our long-term memory. We can easily recollect the header image of a newspaper than the headline or quote. Words are stored in short-term memory while visuals are stored in long-term memory.
It makes communication more personal
Today an emoji or a GIF will express personal emotions in a far better way than long and monotonous words which often is repetitive and sometimes annoying. Communicating the most profound thoughts is more comfortable with pictures, GIFs, and emojis.
Visual communication is global and all-pervasive. It is in our personal and business lives.
